EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL SCIENCE FESTIVAL
PIXEL WALL FOR PLAY ON EXHIBITION
4 WEEK PROJECT
In January 2017 we were given the challenge to design an exhibit to teach visitors of the Edinburgh International Science Festival about pixelation, and digital image construction. The installation is part of the Picture This section of the Play on exhibition which took visitors through the history and evolution of image construction, and was held at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh in April 2017.
We developed a highly interactive and playful concept which we called Pixel Wall. The exhibit allowed participants to build images by physically handling foam pixels, and arranging them within an image grid.
Further to the exhibition work, we also ran a day long workshop called Pixelation in which we used colourful paper plates to create huge images on the Museum floor with the help of 100's of young participants who volunteered on the day.
